Biography

"Singing defines her life", wrote journalist Katja Uhlmann in a portrait of me in the "Freie Presse" newspaper on 2 September 2005
This is true, but singing in my case definitely refers to classical and operatic music. Actually I wanted/was supposed to become a violinist. Because of my musical talents, I was accepted at the Vocational School of Music in Kronach at the age of 15 (the usual entry age is 18).

About six months later I realised that I would only become a mediocre violinist when compared to the other students. Without further ado, I announced to my surprised parents that I wanted to become a singer. They did have me tested by three different singing teachers and their unanimous opinion was: "Yes, things could turn out well!" I was lucky to be taught by the former Plauen tenor Heinz-Karl Hentschel and the famous soprano singer and singing teacher Prof. Helga Samson from the Hamburger Sängerakademie (Hamburg Voice Academy).

I completed my training in Kronach in July 2004 at the age of seventeen and since then I have been able to use the title "Certified school teacher for singing".

After that I became a member of the opera choir at Plauen-Zwickau Theatre during the 04/05 season (as a first alto) and took part in all the performances by the music theatre. I played minor roles in "Figaro" and "Anatevka" and at that time I was the youngest singer in a professional opera choir in Germany. Many concerts, successful participation in international master classes and singing contests followed. Recently, my training was enhanced by Kammersänger Prof. Peter Maus from the Deutsche Oper Berlin. I receive lessons in scenic presentation from my step-father Heinz-Joachim Petzold, who discovered my singing skills, has promoted my education in every way from the outset, made it possible for me to attend master classes and competitions and has looked after organisational matters up to the present time.

I have been taking piano lessons with Mr. G. Fiedler in Plauen for a long time. My correpetitor is Ms. Irina Troian in Reichenbach.

Specialising in opera solos, I passed the 2nd Examination for Stage Professions set by the Stage Professions Examination Commission in Vienna in May 2007. I will take the examinations to obtain recognition as a stage artist in Vienna in 2008.

I was awarded a scholarship for the year 2007 by the International Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. This was in recognition of my singing skills in the field of drama. Every year singers, musicians and stage artists from 40 countries apply for this scholarship. The fact that the Association of Richard - Wagner Societies expects scholarship holders to be qualified for the Bayreuth Festival is of particular importance for my future. This is why I have learned Wagner arias from the operas Lohengrin, Rheingold, Tannhäuser and Walküre. I gave my first performance of these works during my concert in Plauen on Whitsunday.
